Bodies for Birth

Ive found that the best part of teaching maternal fitness certificate courses is working with fitness professionals who are passionate about providing exercise programs to pregnant and postpartum women.  In my experience, the success of training depends upon the balance between the information being given by the instructor, and the inquisitive feedback from the participants. When you have people who are actively engaged and eager to learn, the training takes on an energy that brings out the best in everyone.

My most recent training was hosted this past October by Maura Shirey at her Bodies for Birth studio in Seattle. Since 2014, Bodies for Birth has provided a warm, supportive environment for pregnant women, new moms and their babies. The facility has an exercise studio with an array of fitness equipment, as well as a well-stocked and comfortable room for baby changing, nursing, refreshments and quiet time.

The training began at Bodies for Birth at 9:00 am, and consisted of a diverse group of fitness instructors, physical therapists and maternal health providers. They were to a person inquisitive, collaborative and excited to expand their knowledge in the field of maternal fitness. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented and enthusiastic group, and I feel confident they all will go on to help women have healthy and fit pregnancies and postpartum recoveries. In addition, Maura did a fantastic job of preparing for hosting the course and facilitating a smoothly run transition from lecture to exercise session. I wish she would host all my courses-it was such a treat to have everything I needed to make the day run well.

Bodies for Birth offers the perfect environment for empowering and supporting women, and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Maura Shirey and her team.
